1. Discover the Beautiful Beaches
Kefalonia is home to some of the most incredible beaches in the world, many surrounded by beautiful lush, tall green hills which twist and turn down to the crystal blue waters. Our top three beaches to visit are:
This is located on the northwestern coast of Kefalonia and is considered one of the top 30 best beaches in the entire world. The sea is vibrant and the sunset brings incredible shades of orange into a bright rose colour. The perfect spot to catch a romantic sunset with a loved one.
This beach is located around 20 metres west of Argostoli and it’s surrounded by stunning huge cliffs that swoop right up to the beautiful beach. The water deepens quicker near the shore which creates larger waves than you would find on many other surrounding beaches. Great for practicing some bodyboarding.
This beach is named after its X-shape of the cove at the beach and is regarded as one of Kefalonia’s most famous beaches. For those who want to enjoy a cocktail in the sunshine, there is a bar right on the beach, and it’s the perfect place for families with children thanks to the shallow water and gentle waves.
2. Visit the Beautiful Melissani Cave
Discovered in 1951, this impressive cave, located just outside Sami, has been open to the public since 1963. It’s regarded as one of the most amazing sights on the whole island. A top tip is to try and visit the cave during a bright, sunny day so you can take full advantage of the stunning sun rays shining down on the collapsed roof, shimmering on the blue waters of the surrounding lake. You can even take a Venice inspired gondola ride through the waters!
3. Visit the Sea Turtles in Argostoli
Argostoli is the bustling capital of Kefalonia and it’s also home to a wonderful population of loggerhead sea turtles which are currently an endangered species. They spend their lives in the Argostoli harbour and you can see lots of them during the morning (around 9 am to 11 am) while waiting by the fishing boats for the local fisherman to clean out their nets. Being inches away from these beautiful animals in their natural habitat is definitely worth the early start.
