4 Reasons Why Sicily Should Be Your Next Holiday Destination

Spring might just be arriving, but we’re already thinking ahead to where we want to go on holiday this summer. The sun has finally started to make an appearance here in the UK and it’s getting us excited to book our next adventure.

For those unsure on where to holiday this summer, we suggest you consider the beautiful island of Sicily. The stunning Mediterranean island is located off the toe of Italy and is full of rich history, exciting culture and breathtaking scenery.

If you’ve never considered Sicily, we suggest you take a look at these four reasons why it should be top of your travel list…

Stunning Beaches

We know we’re a little bit biased but believe us when we say that Sicily is home to some of the most stunning beaches in the world. Sparkling blue waters, sandy white sand and unbeatable rugged landscapes, the beaches on the island will definitely take your breath away. We could never choose a favourite – there are over 200 to explore. From large tourist beaches to tiny little private coves, there is definitely something to suit every type of holidaymaker. You’ll definitely find nowhere more romantic to catch a sunset with your loved one.

Mount Etna

Is seeing an active volcano on your bucket list? If yes then you’ll be happy to know that Sicily has one just for you. Mount Etna is the biggest active volcano in Europe – soaring at 11,000 feet in the air. It erupts frequently, sending lots of clouds of ash sporadically across the island. Once in a while, the volcano does something that is incredibly rare in the science of volcanology; it emits smoke rings. Getting to see this is definitely something that you do not want to miss. The volcano is also a popular location for skiing.

Mouth Watering Cuisine

There is just something about the cuisine in Sicily that makes it some of the most delicious food in the world. Vegetables are plucked straight from the ground, giving you fresh and vibrant flavours within popular dishes. Even if you went for a month, we don’t think it would be enough to try all of the mouth watering Sicilian dishes that the island has to offer – but you can give it a good try! From seafood dishes to cheese dishes, there is something to suit all taste buds. You should definitely try the fantastic street food too – it’s out of this world!

The Sicilians

The people in Sicily are friendly and welcoming, going out of their way to make sure that your experience on the island is special and memorable. Whilst naturally shy, you’ll come away from your holiday knowing that you have met some truly incredible people. They will always greet you with a warm smile, as well as provide generosity and warmth that will make you feel extremely special.
