Attractions in Almerida

With the beach nearby, Villa Kallisto is the perfect base to explore the Apokoronas area, where you’ll be able to enjoy walking around, hiking, biking and engaging in water sports.

Botanical Park

Located at Omolos, Chania, (around half an hour away by car) the Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete is rich in fruit trees from all over the world, as well as medicinal and ornamental plants. With so many colourful paths to explore while there, you’ll certainly enjoy spotting the hundreds of plants and animals that make this microclimate their home!

Samariá Gorge

Great for hikers, Samariá Gorge is just nearby. Created by a small river running between two mountains, this gorge is 16km long and listed as a World’s Biosphere Reserve where many endemic species have flourished.

Aptera

If you love history, you’ll enjoy exploring the archaeological ruins of Aptera. This site was destroyed by an earthquake during the 7th century, and a monastery was built there in the 12th century, which operated until 1964.  The hilltop is located around 150m above the sea and presents a spectacular view.

Gavalochori

This is an old, traditional village located in the Apokoronas area. In it, you’ll find a fantastic folklore museum where you’ll be able to see the history and culture of the village. This is also a great opportunity to try more delicious Cretan recipes, as there are plenty of taverns that offers the best in Mediterranean food.
