The beautiful island of Crete is jam-packed with stunning beaches, quaint traditional villages, historic sights and magnificent natural landscapes. In the Summer months, it is a popular and busy destination for visitors looking for different kinds of holidays at its many welcoming resorts.

Fine golden sand beaches lapped by the sparklingly clear waters of the Mediterranean are one of the main draws of this lovely island in the hot Summer months. The safe sandy, shelving beaches all along the coast make for ideal family holiday locations, and the happy sounds of children playing in the waves is part & parcel of a Summer holiday.

As the temperatures rise through June, July & August, the Cretan sea beckons visitors to take a dip and cool off in its silky waters. Plenty of watersports can be found as well, for those who like to be active on holiday.

However, there is always a quiet place to be found, somewhere off the beaten path or tucked away for those ‘in the know’. Crete being a large island, there is no shortage of hidden bays & inlets to seek out, stunning paths to take through the rugged mountains, shaded riverside villages providing a stop-off point for those exploring.

Popular beach and harbour front villages are buzing in the evenings, with a plethora of traditional tavernas and bars jostling alongside international restaurants, offering an unmistakable holiday vibe and lots of choices for eating out.

Temperatures start to increase earlier in the season due to it’s Southerly position, meaning Crete has some of the warmest & most stable weather in the Greek Islands. In June there are 11 hours sunshine a day, daily average high of 28degrees and the average sea temperature is already 22degrees. Things get hotter in July, creeping up to 29-30degrees, with the seasonal North winds coming in throughout July and August, which can help to relieve the heat. Evenings remain balmy though the Summer and there is very minimal rainfall, making for reliably hot, beach-destination weather.
