Croatia has become one of the top spots for Mediterranean villa holidays in recent years, and as soon as you see its stunning beaches and spectacular scenery it will surely head to the top of your list too! The largest island in Dalmatia, Brac is one of Croatia’s many islands lying in the Adriatic, and is a popular destination. Near Bol is the pristine white pebble beach of Zlatni Rat, excellent for windsurfing. There are many dining options and the island can be easily explored, as well as ferries to nearby Split.
What Does Brac Have to Offer?
Brač is less developed than some of its island neighbours like Korčula or the party island of Hvar. Relaxed and welcoming, there’s an authentic feel to the towns and villages dotted around its coast.
Brač boasts its own unique olive oil made from the fruits of the indigenous Buhavica tree. The island has built a reputation as Croatia premier olive grove with its million-plus olive trees. Wine and olive tasting tours are available.
You’ll find the little town of Bol on the southern tip of the island Brač. It’s the oldest coastal town on the island.
Staying in a villa in Bol means you’ll be right next to what many call the most beautiful beach on the Adriatic Sea, the Zlatni rat. World-famous for its distinctive shape, it fans around what’s become known as the Golden Cape.
The miles of white sand and pebbles make it a beach lover’s paradise. The wind, waves, and sea currents constantly change the shape of the tip of the beach. Here you can swim, hire a pedal boat or windsurf. There’s great snorkelling or scuba diving with a chance to explore the local marine life in the crystal clear waters. You can visit the remains of a Roman country villa in the pine grove which runs down to the beach.
Another must-see is the town of Pučišća. Famed for its white stonework, it often appears in lists featuring the prettiest villages in Europe. The island rises steeply from the waterfront which gives the town an amphitheatre-like appearance. It’s a perfect spot
for a long, leisurely lunch.
