Mounda Beach Villas
Mounda & Kaminia Beach, Skala, Kefalonia
The long and beautiful Blue Flag beaches of Kaminia and Mounda can claim to be among the longest and most stunning on Kefalonia. Near the village of Ratzakli, on the road to Skala (around 2km), in the south of the island, this fabulous shelving beach offers enough space and quiet spots to give the impression of being a quiet, hidden ‘find’, even at busier times.
Fine golden sands stretch on down to Mounda at the eastern end, and are gently lapped by the shallow, warm waters throughout the Summer, topped off with memorable views towards Zakynthos. This stretch of beach is also one of the few nesting sites for the endangered loggerhead turtle – Caretta caretta, for which Kefalonia is well known. You might spot signs of the turtle’s activity, and if you are very lucky you may even see the baby turtles rushing down to the sea at Mounda!
Kaminia beach caters for differing tastes – part of the beach has organised sunbeds and parasols, so you can easily seek some shade. However, there is also plenty of free space for those preferring peace and quiet and to spread out in a more secluded spot along this large beach. A cafe and several tavernas offer an easy option for beachside refreshments and relaxation at any time of day – try Anemos Beach Bar for a chilled beach bar in the day or an evening enjoying the sunset over a meal in the Anemos Taverna. The ceramic kilns that were here during the 19th Century give this beach it’s name.
A stroll along the soft curve of Kaminia brings you to Mounda beach, at the eastern end of this stretch of golden sands and crystal clear waters. Here again are a number of tavernas, cafes and restaurants catering for all tastes, ideal for a delicious lunch overlooking the northern part of the island and soaking up the beautiful natural scenery. Before taking a dip in the sparkling sea, do keep a lookout for any warning signs as you head back down to the beach, alerting visitors to the sea turtles and any nesting sites. Quite exciting!
A further walk around the headland to the east, brings you to the naturist beach at Loutraki/ Spithi.
The Kaminia and Mounda area offer a spectacular base for your Mounda Beach Villa holiday, combining a feeling of peace and seclusion, with amenities, eateries and a near-perfect beach and if that is not enough its a 5 minute drive to nearby Katelios with its wide selection of Beachside Tavernas 7 minimarkets and 5 mins from Skala with even more tavernas, supermarkets and a 6km long sandy beach with water sports.
