Varipetro is a small village in a beautiful rural setting, located amidst olive & orange groves and endless peace and quiet! Yet the stunning Chania, with its picture-perfect Venetian harbour, maze of narrow streets and numerous tavernas and shops, is in very easy striking distance, as Varipetro is just a short hop of around 7kms to the southwest of Chania. You will also find a choice of wonderful beaches nearby, offering a choice of quiet and wild through to bustling and taverna-backed. When you combine this with exploring the countryside and history in the immediate area, you have the recipe for a great villa holiday location!
Walking in the area around Varipetro is a great way to explore some of the hidden gems here. You can explore the nearby Kastelos Fort, a walled citadel atop Kastelos Hill. The hill is thought to have been inhabited from the Minoans, through to Medieval times, and the well-preserved walls date primarily from the Byzantine period. Naturally beautiful, Lake Agia and Therisso Gorge offer scenic and peaceful spots for a picnic. The Monastery of Agia Kiriaki is also nearby and is surrounded by an area of forest, small gorge and some of the small chapels are built inside the caves in the hillsides. Restored from ruins since 1992, the Monastery now offers an interesting visit.
For those seeking rural peace & tranquility just a stone’s throw from the attractions of Chania and the coast, a villa in the Varipetro area makes a great choice!
