Boasting hidden beaches, crowd-free coves and natural harbours, Brac’s 175 kilometres of coastline make it the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors as nature intended – clothes free.
Naturism has a long history in Croatia and surrounding countries, and whilst only two have official FKK status* and are established naturist beaches, naturism is widely practiced in others. Elsewhere, in more hidden, private beaches, clothes-optional sunbathing is practiced on the understanding of discretion.
If you’ve never yet experienced the joys of naturism which, as the name suggests, is a way of getting back to nature where everyone is on a level playing ground, wonderfully free of constricted clothing, Brac’s family-friendly naturist beaches are a great place to start.
We at Freelance Villas are often asked as to which ‘private beaches’ we recommend. Here’s Brac’s Top 5 Naturist Beaches we love!
Pakalina Beach
Best for first timers and accessibility
Located west of Brac’s most popular and most photographed beach, Zlatni Rat, Pakalina Beach comprises two large coves and many smaller ones, with fine, pebbly sand meaning you can keep the swimming shoes at home. It’s accessibility and closeness to the shops and tavernas of Bol make it the best all-rounder and whilst there’s a smattering of people in swimwear, you’ll feel far less conspicuous – and more comfortable – without.

Sutivan FKK Beach
Best for all-day shade
Not one but two small beaches sit side by side just outside the town of Sutivan and are marked with an official FKK sign. It’s a short, shady walk to get here from the car park and you’ll notice it’s also far less busy than Pakalina or Bol. We love the view of Split and its mountainous surrounds across the water and the fact the tree-lined coastline affords a shady spot even at midday.

FKK Zazubić Mutnik
Best for peace and quiet
Hello, hidden beach lovers! If you like your beaches natural and unspoiled, head to Zazubic Bay near Mutnik, located on the north of the island between Supetar and Sutivan. You can park under the shade of the trees, where the waterline is mere metres away. Heaven! Pack your swimming shoes as it’s a rocky shoreline.

Slatina Beach
Best for unspoiled scenery
Located on the south coast near the village of Murvica is the unspoiled, no-frills Slatina beach. It’s not the easiest place to get to, the terrain is rocky and the beach a mix of pebbles and sand, but there are spectacular views over the Hvar island and given its relative inaccessibility, comparatively crowd free even in peak season. Again, pack your swimming shoes. They’re a comfort essential.

Grabov Rat Beach
Best for beauty
If you want a guaranteed spot on this small beach cove just east of Bol, get here early. Tucked behind a Dominican monastery and flanked by steep cliffs, there’s only 50 metres of accessible rocky beachline. What it lacks in size, though, it more than makes up for in scenery, both monastery view and of the crystal-clear waters to bathe in. Stunning!

*FKK is an abbreviation derived from the German word, Freikörperkultur, meaning ‘free body culture’, a 19th century societal trend promoting body confidence, a return to nature and a healthier way of living.
