Swap Al-desko for Al-fresco this summer
One of the main reasons why customers prefer to holiday in a villa compared to a hotel is because it offers maximum flexibility. Take meals. Rather than being tied to a breakfast, lunch or evening dinner timetable of someone else’s choosing, a villa allows you – and your family – to eat as you want, what you want and when you want.
Late back after an afternoon paddleboarding? No problem. Want to enjoy a lazy, relaxed brunch after a morning swim? Ditto!
Whilst nobody wants to be a slave to the kitchen on holiday, being able to cook the odd meal or two isn’t just a cost-effective solution, especially for large groups or families, but gives you the option to BBQ, cook or picnic in a way no hotel can.
An indoor kitchen is undoubtedly handy, having to cook inside whilst other members of the family are lazing by the pool does have a whiff of Cinderella about it. Not so with an outdoor kitchen – a place with an outside seating area, woodburning stove, BBQ or oven, ideally a sink, too, which means that everyone can be gathered outdoors even whilst the pork chops sizzle or the salad gets drizzled.
Even better, outdoor cooking on holiday means the chances of others taking their turn (we’re looking at you, Dads and kids), is far higher.
No wonder we’ve seen an increase in popularity of properties with an outdoor kitchen!
Here’s some of our favourites…
Villa Vicina
Milna, Brač, Croatia
The wraparound terrace has several al fresco dining options as well as a bespoke (and very cute) outdoor kitchen area with a built in BBQ and oven.
Villa Amvrosia
Armeni, Crete
In a villa where its outside space is matchless, you’ll find a ‘BBQ house’; a casita with wood oven, fridge, sink with tap and a generous table and seating area.
Cana Joana
Santa Margalida, Mallorca
As well as having a covered terrace the full length of the property to enjoy al fresco meals, the covered outdoor kitchen, or casita, has a double sink, fridge and full cooker. There’s a separate large stone-built BBQ in the garden, too.
Villa Metapothia
Gavalochori, Crete
One of the many outside areas in the largest villa we have is a BBQ dining terrace, comprising wooden dining table and chairs for 12 and a purpose-built BBQ and sink. There’s also a separate covered dining terrace next to the indoor kitchen.
Villa Alexandros
Spartia, Kefalonia
Of the many outside sea-view terraces and pergolas in this large villa is a BBQ house, complete with wood or charcoal fired BBQ and sink.
